Weather Report for 2017 by Month

January

The first month of 2017 was drier and slightly cooler than average. Winds were much lighter than normal.

The highest temperature in the month was 10.6°C recorded at 05:54 on the 11th, with the coldest temperature being -3.9°C recorded at 03:01 on the 27th, the lowest temperature since -5.4°C was recorded on January 17th 2013. On the 26th, the temperature reached a maximum of 0.9°C at 01:01 before falling below freezing at 02:50. The temperature remained below freezing for the rest of the day, reaching a minimum of -2.9°C at 23:58.

The average temperature in the month was 3.6°C. The minimum temperature fell below freezing for five days between the 2nd and the 6th. This is the longest run of sub-zero temperatures since a five day run ending on January 19th 2016. The average daily high was 6.0°C (mean 6.3°C), with the average daily low being 0.9°C (mean 1.3°C). The warmest days were the 7th and 8th which both recorded average temperatures of 7.0°C. The coldest day was the 26th when the average temperature was only -1.4°C. There were 13 frost days.

January 2017 was the driest January ever recorded here with only 20.6 millimetres being recorded, almost half of the average 41.0 millimetres. There were 18 rain days, with the wettest being the 3.6 millimetres recorded on the 15th. The highest rain rate was 6.4 mm/hr at 07:40 on the 1st. Only one millimetre of snow was recorded, on the 13th. This was the first snowfall since January 17th 2016.

High pressure dominated for most of the month with the highest barometric pressure being 1037.5 millibars at 10:10 on the 19th. The lowest pressure was 995.0 millibars at 20:02 on the 12th, with the month average being 1021.3 millibars. This was the highest ever average barometric pressure here in January, well above the average of 1012.0 millibars.

The average wind speed was 3 mph and the average gust speed 5 mph, both below average. The highest recorded gust speed was 36 mph at 04:51 on the 11th. The highest average wind speed was 20 mph at 06:24, also on the 11th. The wind run was 2424 miles, the lowest ever in January here. The dominant wind direction was 208°

February

February 2017 was 2.5°C warmer than average, with a maximum temperature of 14.6°C. Rainfall was slightly below average and only 3.5 mm of snow was noted. Winds were average, even though an all-time record wind gust of 50 mph was recorded.

The maximum temperature in the month was 14.6°C recorded at 13:46 on the 20th. This was the second highest February temperature, only beaten by the 15.6°C recorded on February 23rd 2012. The minimum temperature was -1.6°C recorded at 10:25 on the 6th, with the monthly average being 5.6°C, 1.4°C above the mean. This was the second highest February monthly average, beaten only by the 6.0°C recorded in 2011.

The daily average high temperature was 7.9°C (mean 6.8°C), with the daily average low temperature being 3.4°C (mean 1.7°C). The warmest day was the 20th with an average temperature of 11.0°C. The coldest day was the 9th and 10th with average temperatures of 0.9°C. There was only one frost day, on the 6th.

The highest dew point was 12.2°C recorded at 14:27 on the 20th, with the lowest dew point being -2.2°C recorded at 10:25 on the 6th. The average monthly dew point was 4.1°C. March

March 2017 was the warmest March ever recorded here. Temperatures were 2.0°C above the average. Rainfall was above average and no snow or frost was recorded. This was the first March that the minimum temperature was above freezing. Winds were stronger than average.

The highest temperature in the month was 18.3°C at 17:24 on the 30th, the highest temperature since 20.3°C was recorded on September 28th 2016. The lowest temperature was 0.5°C at 02:12 on the 2nd. This is the highest minimum March temperature ever recorded, beating the previous high of -0.3°C set in 2012. The average temperature in the month was 8.0°C, the highest ever for March, beating the previous highest of 7.9°C set in 2012. The average daily high temperature was 11.7°C (mean 9.8°C), with the average daily low temperature being 4.7°C (mean 2.6°C), another March record. The warmest day was the 30th with an average temperature of 14.2°C, with the coldest days being the 1st and 5th with an average of 4.4°C. For the first time ever in March, no frost days were recorded.

The highest dew point was 13.2°C at 14:39 on the 30th, with the lowest being -3.4°C at 22:55 on the 25th. The average monthly dew point was 5.4°C, 2.2°C above the mean. April

April 2017 was the driest month ever recorded here with only six millimetres of rainfall. Winds were the lightest ever in April and temperatures were equal to the average.

The highest temperature in the month was 21.4°C recorded at 14:43 on the 9th, the highest temperature since 24.8°C was recorded on September 15th 2016. At 05:35 on the 25th, the temperature fell to -1.9°C, equalling the lowest April temperature ever here set on April 2nd 2013. The average temperature in the month was 8.5°C, exactly the same as the April mean. The average daily high temperature was 12.9°C, also the same as the mean, with the average daily low temperature being 4.4°C (0.1°C below the mean). The warmest day was the 9th with an average temperature of 13.4°C. The coldest day was the 25th with an average temperature of 3.5°C. There were two frost days.

The highest dew point was 13.4°C recorded at 14:36 on the 9th, with the lowest being -4.9°C at 20:44 on the 24th. The average monthly dew point was 4.7°C, 0.1°C below the mean. The high wind chill was 21.4°C at 14:43 on the 9th, with the low wind chill being -2.0°C at 01:24 on the 25th. The average wind chill in the month was 7.8°C. May 2017 was warmer than the average, with rainfall totals below normal. Winds were lighter than average. So far this year, only January has recorded average temperatures below normal.

The highest temperature in the month was 25.2°C recorded at 15:39 on the 25th. This was the highest temperature since 25.7°C was recorded on September 14th 2016. The lowest temperature in the month was 2.1°C recorded at 06:32 on the 10th. The average for the month was 12.6°C, 1.3°C above the mean. The average daily high temperature was 17.0°C, 1.5°C above the mean, with the average daily low temperature being 8.6°C, 1.4°C above the mean. Both these daily averages were the highest ever recorded here in May. The warmest day was the 25th with an average temperature of 19.9°C, while the coldest day was the 9th with an average temperature of 7.4°C.

The highest dew point was 19.1°C recorded at 11:53 on the 27th. June 2017 continued the run of above average temperatures and was the warmest June so far recorded here. Winds were slightly stronger than average and rainfall totals were lower than the norm.

The highest temperature in the month was 29.5°C recorded at 16:19 on the 19th, the highest temperature ever recorded in June here. This was also the highest temperature of 2017 so far and the highest since 30.1°C was recorded on July 19th 2016. The temperature exceeded 25°C on four occasions during the month, the first time this has happened since July 2014. The lowest temperature in the month was 7.5°C at 06:02 on the 4th. The average temperature in the month was 15.6°C, 1.4°C above the mean. The average daily high temperature was 19.5°C, 1.0°C above the mean, with the average daily low being 7.5°C, 1.5°C above the mean. The warmest day was the 19th with an average of 24.2°C. The coldest day was the 6th with an average temperature of 11.2°C.

The highest dew point was 21.1°C at 18:53 on the 21st, the highest ever here in June. The lowest dew point was 5.9°C at 04:53 on the 4th, also a high for June. July 2017 became only the second month this year to record below average temperatures after January. Rainfall was lower than average and winds were lighter than normal.

The average temperature in the month was 16.0°C, 0.2°C below the norm for July. The highest temperature was 27.3°C at 18:35 on the 6th, with the lowest being 8.8°C at 06:12 on the 17th. The average daily high temperature in the month was 20.8°C, and the average daily low was 11.7°C, both slightly below normal. The warmest day was the 6th with an average temperature of 19.9°C. The coldest day was the 11th with an average temperature of 12.8°C.

The highest dew point was 19.2°C at 16:41 on the 6th. The lowest dew point was 7.5°C at 06:01 on the 17th, the highest minimum dew point recorded in any month here.. August 2017 was cooler and wetter than average. Winds were the lightest ever recorded in an August here.

September 2017 was the second wettest ever recorded here with rain being recorded on 23 days. Temperatures were below normal and winds were slightly below average.

The maximum temperature in the month was 21.2°C recorded at 18:11 on the 4th, 2.6°C below the average monthly maximum. The minimum temperature was 4.8°C recorded at 08:04 on the 19th, 0.5°C below the average minimum for September. This was the lowest temperature since 4.1°C was recorded on May 11th 2017. October 2017 was the driest October recorded here. Temperatures were well above average, with only October 2011 being warmer.

This was the third warmest October day ever and the warmest October day since 25.6°C was recorded on October 3rd 2011.
